A bus Journey
A bus is a common vehicle in our country. Almost everyday we travel from
one place to another by bus.
However, we go for a long journey by bus very
rarely. Once I had an opportunity to go for a long journey by bus from Dhaka to
Sylhet. I was going to my uncle's house in Sylhet during summer vacation.
I went to Sayedabad Bus Terminal in the morning.
With much difficulty I found out Dhaka-Sylhet bus. To my surprise I found that the seats were almost full.
Luckily I found a ticket. It was a luxury chair coach. My seat was beside a window and I found it quite comfortable.
The bus started for Sylhet at 7 a.m. When our
bus left Dhaka city, the driver increased its
speed. It began to run in full speed.
Through the window I looked out. Our bus was running leaving behind the houses,
cottages villages and trees on either
side of the road. My mind was filled with joy at the sight of the green fields.
We reached Meghna Ferry Ghat at Bhairab at 8
a.m. We all got down from the bus. Some of the hotel boys asked passengers
if they had needed of any food. At the ferry the
hawkers came running to the buses. They began to sell bananas, bread, fruits
betel leaf and cigarettes. The ferry took about
half an hour to go to the other side of the Meghna. After crossing the river, we again got on the bus. The
driver began to drive faster than before. In the way our bus was about to collide with a loaded truck coming from
the opposite direction. The passengers raised a cry of alarm but thank God, we
had a hair-breadth escape.
